New at O'Fiaich

Science Week Round Up - 2011

On Tuesday 15th, HSE paramedic Niall Kenny gave a lecture in O’Fiaich about how Science and technology assist him in saving lives every day. He demonstrated ECG machines and Blood pressure instruments. He discovered 6 out of 7 students had high blood pressure, (who knew, it must be all the stress over studying so hard!) He taught the students about the important role the ambulance service plays in our society.

Crime Scene Investigation Labs took place on Wednesday, Students learned how to make invisible ink, dusted the school for fingerprints, and learned all about the science of biometrics and steganography. See Ms. Mo for fingerprints samples of samples!

Belfast’s W5 was invaded by O’Fiaich’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd years on Thursday, 17 November 2011. Students experimented with acids and bases to learn the difference between physical and chemical reactions. They enjoyed the expeditions on display and took part in many interactive activities that enhanced their appreciation of science in everyday life.

Thanks to all teachers involved in making Science Week a huge success.
